LUXLIT WEEKLY FEATURED ARTIST
ARTIST PRESENTATION
Total art. To talk about the work of Erik Petrie (http://erikpetrieartwork.tumblr.com/) is to talk about one of the most interesting and innovative photographic proposals we have seen. Erik is an artist in the true sense of the word. With talent and exquisite taste, his imagination seems to have no limit. His work masterfully combines photography and painting, giving his images a texture, a “relief”, a heightened volume, moving them closer to three-dimensional, almost tactile, images. Another attraction is his ability to recreate the atmosphere of each image. The composition of all his images is masterful and direct, yet subtle in the way that catches our eye and plunges us deeper into this atmosphere created by each photograph. His colour images have an excellent balance with slightly saturated tones, cleverly softened, all contributing to this ambience which sits between longing and memory. On the other hand, his black and whites—excellently executed—are generally used as a tool to bring us towards more abstract and schematic views, all of great strength. Photography, as vanguard art, is going to continue to evolve and develop in the future and we have no doubt that Erik Petrie’s work should be taken into account as part of this process. To enjoy this innovative vision of photography as art, we recommend to visit his blog: http://erikpetrieartwork.tumblr.com/
